The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) has spoken out strongly against plans to ship 60,000 sheep from the Eastern Cape to the Middle East. 

The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) will take legal action, including laying charges against government, to ensure that there is an end to the unacceptable and unnecessary cruelty involved in the live animal export trade, said the council.

On Friday, a delegation from the Citrus Growers’ Association of Southern Africa (CGA) visited  the specialised reefer ship ‘MV Cool Eagle’, which arrived last week at the Durban port.

The government isn’t quite sure how to do it, but it wants to adopt a centuries-old policy to restrict coastal shipping to South African-owned vessels.
