Farm attacks and rural crime continue to plague South Africa, with independent data from the Southern African Agri Initiative (SAAI) showing a 19% increase in incidents: 143 attacks from January to October 2025, up from 121 in 2024. While farm murders dipped slightly to 16 (from 19), they account for 11% of attacks. Hotspots include Gauteng (32%), Mpumalanga (15%), and North West (13%). Critics slam the South African Police Service (SAPS) for delayed official stats, arguing it hampers rural safety planning and coordination—leaving isolated communities vulnerable to isolation and limited policing.

Die FAO se voedselkommoditeitsprysindeks het in Oktober die tweede agtereenvolgende maand gedaal tot 126,4 basispunte (van 128,5 in September), effens laer as Oktober 2024 en 21,1% onder die Maart 2022-piek, hoofsaaklik weens groot wêreldvoorrade.
- Suikerpryse het die skerpste gedaal tot die laagste vlak sedert Desember 2020, gedryf deur oortollige voorraad in Brasilië, verwagte produksiestygings in Thailand en Indië, en laer ru-oliepryse.
- Suiwelindeks het met 3,4% gedaal weens laer melkpoeier- en botterpryse, ondersteun deur sterk uitvoermoontlikhede uit Europa en Nieu-Seeland.
- Plantolie-indeks het met 0,9% gestyg tot die hoogste vlak sedert Julie 2022.
In ’n afsonderlike verslag voorspel die FAO dat wêreldgraanproduksie in 2025 ’n rekord van 2,99 miljard ton sal bereik (op van 2,97 miljard ton laas maand), 4,4% hoër as 2024, met potensiële rekordoeste vir mielies en rys.
Due to the increasing outbreaks of avian influenza in Europe, Spain plans to confine the country’s poultry in various regions to indoor spaces from Monday.The Ministry of Agriculture stated in a release that a rise in bird flu has been observed in recent weeks in both wild and domestic birds, indicating a deteriorating situation.According to the AFP news agency, 139 outbreaks were recorded on European poultry farms between 1 July and 5 November this year, of which 14 were in Spain. The highest risks are in the southwestern, central, and northern parts of the country.Farms with free-range poultry in these regions will be confined until further notice from 10 November.The virus can spread through faeces and saliva, as well as contaminated feed and water, heightening concerns among farmers and health authorities. Due to the surge in cases in the United Kingdom and France, those countries have imposed similar restrictions.
